University MedEvac - Non-injury incident

Date: 3/31/10 1633 EST

Program: University MedEvac
	15421 Old State Road
	Middlefield, OH 44062

Type: EC135P2
Tail #: N586AM
Operator/Vendor: Air Methods Corporation

Weather: Clear. Not a factor

Team: Pilot, Flight Nurse, and Flight Paramedic. No injuries reported. Patient on board.

During takeoff from a scene flight, with a patient on-board, the
number 1 engine gauges began providing inconsistent warning
indications. The Pilot-in-Command (PIC) made corrective changes, per
procedure, with inconsistent response by warning system lights. The
PIC then placed the number 1 engine into idle, per emergency
procedures, and performed an immediate landing at the nearby airport.
ATC was alerted prior to landing and the communication center was
alerted as well. PIC made a run-on landing at the airport with no
injury to patient or crew or damage to aircraft. Ground EMS arrived
and transported the patient to the nearest trauma center, along with
the air medical crew. Maintenance was alerted and arrived to inspect
the aircraft. Number 1 engine was replaced and the aircraft was
returned to service without further event.
